Assignment overview

Assignment 2 is a team assignment made up of three to four students. This assignment is broken down into two parts: a systems analysis and selection report (40%) and a systems analysis and selection presentation (10%). This assignment aims to review the AusMine case study and critically evaluate the key business problems, select an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) vendor suitable for AusMine and consider some challenges that may present the organisation. Assignment 2B: Systems analysis and selection presentation provides more information on the presentation component of this assignment.

Once you have submitted your case study team report and presentation, you will complete the Assignment 2A: Peer evaluation.

Assignment details

As a team of three to four students, you will draw on your understanding of ERP and apply it to a case study. The case study, Assignment 2A Case Study a new ERP for the AusMine LTD (PDF 175KB). Download Assignment 2A Case Study a new ERP for the AusMine LTD (PDF 175KB).forms the basis for this assignment. You are required as a team to produce a report answering the following tasks. As a team, you will also present an overview of your report, for further information about the presentation, see Assignment 2B: Systems analysis and selection presentation.

Teamwork

Working as a team to produce this report will provide you with an opportunity to hone your teamwork skills. These skills are directly transferable to workplace environments where individual, and team accountability is expected.

You can choose your team members in the 3.5 Discussion 1: Teaming up for Assignment 2. Once you have formed your team, you will be able to communicate using your Team discussion board for Assignments 2A and 2B.

As a team, you may find it most effective to divide the work associated with producing this task. There are many ways this could be achieved, including:

  • Allocating roles relating to the various components of the task, including project manager, researcher, connector, and specific people drafting specific sections.
  • Determining which components of the task would benefit from overall team consultation and which components can be completed independently and working accordingly.
  • You will also need to consider the best way to collaborate on the production of the final submission. It may be the case that a shared document that all team members can edit (through a format such as shared files in OneDrive) is more effective than working on multiple Word documents that are distributed via email.

Whichever approach your team selects, please be aware that the overall result is shared equally between all team members. Therefore, it is your responsibility to ensure that team members are making a fair and equitable contribution to the work.

Task

  1. Provide a brief background of the AusMine and its operation. The background should also identify AusMine’s key stakeholders and the factors that affect their relationships with the AusMine. You also need to highlight what is AusMine’s vision for growth and how they aim to achieve it. (15 marks).
  2. Create a table that lists the key business problems of the AusMine, as discussed in the case study. Against each business problem in the table, you also need to identify which one has a higher priority and whether you think an ERP solution can address that problem. You need to justify your answers. You can use this table to inform your answer to task 3. (15 marks).
  3. Create a table that lists key business requirements of the AusMine (8 to 10 requirements), as discussed in the case study. Against each requirement in the table, you also need to identify an ERP functionality(s) that can address that particular requirement. You can use this table to inform your answer to task 4. (15 marks).
  4. You need to develop a set of selection criteria for choosing a vendor who can offer AusMine a suitable ERP solution. You need to suggest at least five criteria for selecting a vendor. For each suggested criterion, a clear explanation must be provided to justify why it is a suitable gauge to select a vendor for the AusMine. Note that your justification should consider the implementation and operation requirements of the AusMine. (10 marks).
  5. The AusMine has adopted a learning strategy for managing change resulting from the implementation of the new ERP systems. Explain what change management challenges they faced and how they addressed those challenges. Explain the strengths and weaknesses of their approaches. You can use Kotter or any other model of change management to justify your answer. (15 marks).
  6. What contingency plans should AusMine put in place throughout the company to avoid any disruption to operation during the implementation? List and describe two plans for the pre-and two plans for the post-go-live phases (10 marks).
  7. How do you think the implementation of the new ERP system can support the following areas of AusMine’s operation? (20 marks).

  8. We are now in 2025, and AusMine is considering upgrading its current ERP system to SAP S4/HANA. Consider your answer to tasks 2 and 3. Do you think that SAP S4/HANA is a suitable ERP solution for the AusMine? Justify your answer by highlighting the capabilities and weaknesses of SAP S4/HANA. Based on your analysis you need to make recommendations to the AusMine. (25 marks).
