The requirement for Task 3 was to produce an 800-word mini essay explaining and evaluating at least two different approaches to treating a mental health condition, based on the one explored in Task 2. The essay had to address Assessment Criteria 3.1 and 3.2 by demonstrating understanding and critical analysis of treatment methods from different psychological perspectives. I chose Depression as my mental health condition and focused on the biological (medical) and cognitive approaches. I began by explaining the biological approach, specifically the use of antidepressant medication like SSRIs, detailing how they work to regulate neurotransmitters. I evaluated their effectiveness, speed of symptom relief, and side effects. I then explained the cognitive approach, with a focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), describing how it addresses negative thought patterns and promotes behavioural change. I assessed its strengths, such as long-term benefits and lack of physical side effects, as well as challenges like accessibility and client motivation. I compared both approaches, highlighting that while medication offers quicker relief, CBT provides more sustainable outcomes. I ensured the essay was within the word limit and supported my arguments with in-text Harvard references. A full reference list was included to meet academic standards.
