This assignment was divided into three core tasks, each linked to specific assessment criteria. Task 1 focused on AC 1.1, which required me to demonstrate an understanding of the complexities in defining mental health. I created a mind map to illustrate key issues such as cultural relativity, statistical infrequency, and social norms. I then selected two of these issues—cultural differences and context—to explore in more depth in a 300-word written explanation.
Task 2 covered AC 2.1 and 2.2, which asked for an explanation and evaluation of the causes of a chosen mental health condition. I selected Depression and presented its causes through two different psychological perspectives: the biological (e.g., neurotransmitter imbalances and genetics) and cognitive (e.g., negative thought patterns) approaches. I created a 10-slide PowerPoint presentation with concise bullet points and relevant visuals, accompanied by clear speaker notes (under 700 words) that provided depth and critical evaluation.
Task 3 addressed AC 3.1 and 3.2 by exploring and evaluating treatments for Depression. I compared the biological treatment (e.g., antidepressants) and cognitive therapy (e.g., CBT), analyzing their effectiveness, side effects, and accessibility. I ensured the essay was within the 800-word limit and included Harvard-style in-text citations and a full reference list.
