Criteria 5:
Resilience
Community correction officers can face unpredictable and highly pressured environments that are often emotionally charged and require often to deal with controversial issues. It is a requirement to be resilient as stressful situations keep on arising and remaining professional, calm and composed is necessary to perform productively. Resilience is one of the core virtues needed by CCO and is gained after continuous professional exposure and when one is willing to learn from personal life as well. As previously involved with an internship in an agency working for criminal justice, I came across challenges such as complex case issues within tight schedules. One needs to remain focused on objectives in such conditions making use of problem-solving skills with a positive attitude. Here seeking feedback from the superior's provided insight, learning from setbacks and striving towards the objective. As any distraction can cause bottlenecks, it needs to be resilient and persistent through complicated situations is crucial in the community correction field as the nature of the work is demanding. The CCO may need to address the continuous trauma and exhaustion. The resilience of the community correction officer is necessary when interacting with people during work and daily. While the work of a CCO is highly rewarding it can be equally challenging and draining on a day-to-day basis, the versatility, peer support or networking can aid in building resilience.
Criteria 6:
Principles Of Equity and Diversity
Since I grew up in the Southern European Culture, I saw a lot of diversity and learned about the importance of equity and equality. This background has provided me insight into the importance of different perspectives and comprehending the versatile challenges of clashing of different cultures, when they come together and how it affects the individuals on a personal level. The experiences from my childhood remind me to remain committed to inclusion and promoting equality in professional settings and everyday life as all diverse needs should be catered to with sensitivity, especially to marginalised communities. This commitment aligns with community correction standards where recognising, respecting and addressing diversity is necessary for efficient performance and overall safety of the community.
Criteria 7:
Awareness And Competence Regarding OHS Issues:
While working in the internship, I came across the OHS issues that is Occupational Health and Safety protocols. It is a multidisciplinary approach that deals with the safety, welfare and health of individuals involved in professional settings. It is something I came to know during academic training during classes in workplace safety and risk management, where hazard recognition, risk assessment and crisis management are crucial. Also, these key principles are applied in various roles during an internship as adherence to OHS guidelines is necessary. My competence regarding the OHS issues ensures a safe working environment for me and everyone else in the field.
