Caring is one of the most valuable attributes to have when it comes to gaining others' trust. People understand caring by being kind. Healthcare consumers are known to be the key players in patient-centered care (Skelly, Hall, & Risher, 2020). Consumers play an important role in the medical decision-making process, influencing the value of treatment provided on both an individual and community level. Therefore, healthcare consumerism has been described as a potent mechanism for speeding up improvements in healthcare delivery (Paglialonga, Patel, Pinto, Mugambi, & Keshavjee, 2019). The concerns about health continues to insist on the patient's needs being combined with sensitivity to the individual's feelings (Vogus, Gallan, Rathert, El-Manstrly & Strong, 2020). There are various professionals that provide services with care and among them registered nurses are on top.
Nursing care necessitates nurses who concentrate on the human-to-human relationship by seeing, knowing, and taking charge. Professional nursing practice necessitates a shared knowledge of nursing, caring, and a responsiveness of ethical inner values (Karlsson & Pennbrant, 2020). A nurse is a patient care provider and encourages with physical needs, disease prevention and health conditions (Norful, Martsolf, de Jacq & Poghosyan, 2017). In simple terms, a nurse's job is to pay attention to the needs of the patients. Nurses differ from other healthcare professionals with that they incorporate a wide range of skills and take a holistic approach to patient care. They are vital in achieving fitness, cure infections, and caring for all patients, as well as the impaired and those who are mentally or physically ill (Nevin, Hynes & Smith, 2020). Registered nurses have an effect on the health of both individuals and communities. Registered Nurses add so much value to the healthcare system when they collaborate with other healthcare professionals, practice to their fullest capabilities, and are committed and responsible (Lucatorto, Thomas, & Siek, 2016).
When patients receive care from healthcare professionals, they experience feelings of satisfaction and kindness, and also feelings of being at ease and being successfully treated. Caring, which is an important part of the healing process, is elicited by nurses who undertake genuine acts of kindness. Furthermore, nurses are more responsible than any other member of the health-care team for delivering high quality care by monitoring patients for clinical weakening, identifying errors and near-misses, and understanding healthcare outcomes. (Gillespie & Reader, 2018). Registered nurses offer a wide range of health-care services to patients in a variety of contexts. Most of the tasks that nurses perform on a regular basis provide a special contribution to patient care, while others may be completed by other members of the health care team. Nursing as a profession provides a unique service to society. When addressing the holistic health needs of the individuals they represent, skilled nurses take a broad approach. Nurses play a variety of roles in order to fulfill the health care needs of their patients, due to the diverse nature of the profession (Bamford-Wade et al., 2020).
Nurses’ demonstration of caring in the Australian Healthcare Context
Australia has a system of universal health care much better than the other countries. In this sector, Nurses and midwives are considered as the core part of maintaining patient protection while delivering high-quality and patient-centered care. They are the largest community of healthcare professionals in Australia, accounting for more than half of the total healthcare workforce (Sharplin et al., 2019). The vast majority of these nurses and midwives operate in clinical institutions such as hospitals, nursing homes, and community medical services, directly influencing the safety and quality of healthcare in Australia. Statistics from Australia shows that registered nurses play a critical role in the successful management and coordination of treatment for people with chronic mental health disorders, and so these nurses are critical to the delivery of healthcare services (Baldwin et al., 2020). Australian sector of healthcare experiences the long-term labor shortage in terms of nurses. In Australia, both the public and private sectors are experiencing problems in hiring and retaining qualified professional nurses, and the situation is unlikely to change in the near future. Due to COVID 19, this problem is further accelerated and imposed more hazardous consequences on the healthcare sector of Australia.
